A Timeless Wedding at the Historic Scottish Rite Cathedral | 02.01.2025

From the moment we arrived at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, we knew Korey & Caleb’s wedding day would be nothing short of spectacular. Not only is this venue a breathtaking historic landmark, but it also holds a fun little pop culture connection—Taylor Swift once filmed a music video here! Needless to say, the bride, her bridesmaids, and I were all so excited about that fun fact.

It was a perfect February day in Indiana. The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and excitement and anticipation filled every moment. We started the morning outside, where Korey had hired a live painter to capture their wedding day on canvas. While Leonard got stunning drone footage of the cathedral, it was amazing to watch the first brushstrokes from Emily come to life, knowing how special the finished painting would be by the end of the night.

Getting Ready: A Bride’s Timeless Elegance

Inside, Korey slipped into her elegant off-the-shoulder gown—a stunning white dress with a subtle floral print that made it both timeless and unique. Her long veil added an extra touch of grace, and as her mom carefully buttoned her up, tears welled in her eyes. It was a tender mother-daughter moment, made even sweeter by Korey’s twin sister stepping in to help with final touches.

The bridesmaids wore a rich burgundy shade, a perfect complement to both the season and the venue’s regal aesthetic. Meanwhile, Caleb and his groomsmen looked sharp in sleek navy blue suits—a striking combination that gave the entire bridal party an effortlessly classic look.

Before heading out for portraits, Korey shared two heartfelt first looks—one with Caleb and one with her dad. Both moments were filled with sweetest emotion and the kind of reactions every bride hopes for. Watching her mom and sister peek in as she embraced her dad for the first time in her wedding dress was the sweetest touch.

Portraits & A Special Ceremony Moment

With the stunning cathedral steps as our backdrop, we captured timeless portraits of Korey, Caleb, and their bridal party. One unexpected but fun moment? A group of motorcyclists passing by, revved their engines, and among other passerbyers cheering them on—it was like the whole city was celebrating their love!

As guests arrived, they signed a custom vinyl record guest book, featuring Korey and Caleb’s engagement photo—a unique and personal touch. A live pianist filled the venue with soft melodies, setting the perfect atmosphere. Then, as the ceremony began, Korey walked down the aisle to a mesh-up of Pachelbel Canon and the song "I See the Light" from Disney’s Tangled—a magical, one-of-a-kind moment that perfectly suited her fairytale day.

A particularly sweet moment we caught on camera was Korey’s grandmother walking into the ceremony space. As she entered, we could see the exact moment when she noticed the breathtaking stained glass windows, and the biggest smile spread across her face. It was a small but beautiful moment that reminded us how special this venue truly is.

During the ceremony, they exchanged vows before God and shared a meaningful communion, taking a moment to reflect on the sacredness of their union. Later, we laughed with them when they shared about how the communion bread was a little dry—but thankfully, the wine helped!

The Venue’s Stunning Setup & A Night to Remember

One of the coolest aspects of the Scottish Rite Cathedral is its multi-level layout, which made for an unforgettable reception experience. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the third floor, they had a beautiful view of the fully decorated reception space below.

Korey & Caleb’s first dance took place on the second floor, creating a breathtaking moment as their guests watched from above. But this wasn’t just any first dance—they had a choreographed routine, and they absolutely crushed it! You could see how much fun they had together, moving in perfect sync and fully soaking in the joy of the moment. It was such a special way to kick off the celebration, setting the tone for an amazing night ahead.

And let’s talk about the live jazz band—they absolutely crushed it! With a saxophonist, drummer, pianist and singer they created an incredible setlist. They brought an energy that made the night feel even more special.

Sweet toasts from Korey’s dad, matron of honor, and Caleb’s best man had everyone tearing up, while later in the evening, Korey got emotional watching Caleb dance with his mom—her love for him was so evident in that moment, and you could feel the weight of the day sinking in.

Creative Details We Were Excited About

We always love finding unique and cinematic ways to capture each couple’s day, and this wedding gave us some really exciting moments behind the camera.

• Leonard had a creative vision to capture Korey’s dress reflected in the grand piano at the ceremony location, and the final shot turned out absolutely stunning.

• At a recent styled shoot at The Sixpence, The Lane Co. taught us some incredible techniques using lights and objects to create artistic effects. Naturally, I had to go on Amazon and buy a kaleidoscope prism to try out with the stained glass windows, and let’s just say—we’re obsessed with how these shots turned out!

•And another detail we were also so fired up about, was we designed a custom title for Korey & Caleb’s wedding film, taking a still shot of the cathedral’s stained glass windows and incorporating it into the text of The Humphres. It was a subtle yet meaningful nod to their venue, and we’re so excited about how it turned out!

A Picture-Perfect Ending

As the sun began to set, we snuck Korey & Caleb away for some golden hour portraits. Korey wore a gorgeous fur shawl, which paired perfectly with the chilly winter evening and added an extra touch of elegance. Against the backdrop of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in downtown Indianapolis, they shared a few quiet moments together—just the two of them.. well and the photo/video paparazzi. :)

Hearing about their upcoming honeymoon plans was so fun! They were starting with a romantic getaway at French Lick after the wedding, followed by an exciting summer trip to Europe—a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure.

By the end of the night, we were able to see the live painter’s masterpiece, and it was absolutely breathtaking. She had captured Korey & Caleb standing on the cathedral steps, bringing their entire day full circle in the most beautiful way.

Of course, no wedding is complete without a packed dance floor, and their guests danced the night away to the incredible live music.

Korey & Caleb, thank you so much for trusting us to capture such a special day in your lives. From the historic beauty of your venue to the heartfelt moments with family and friends, your wedding was truly one for the books. We wish you a lifetime of love, happiness, and adventure!

With Love,

The Whites
