Some wedding days feel like a full experience, like you didn't just show up to document it, you got to be part of it. Kaitlyn and Alex's wedding day at Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, Michigan was exactly that kind of day. From the music to the emotion to the surprises no one saw coming, it felt so deeply personal and so perfectly them.
Music, Meaning & Thoughtful Details
Alex is in a band, so music was woven into their day in such a cool, intentional way. Their save-the-date looked like a concert ticket, disco balls were sprinkled throughout the space, and their seating chart was displayed on records, such a fun nod to who they are.
One of our favorite touches was during cocktail hour, when Alex's bandmates played live music. Guests mingled, sipped, and enjoyed the live music. They had signature cocktails, one of them called Purple Rain, which started out blue and turned purple once lemon juice was added. It was such a fun, unexpected detail that felt very on-brand for them.
They even honored their fur babies with photos, drink names, and cup cozies, small details, but so meaningful.
A First Look, Private Vows & The Best Energy
Kaitlyn and Alex shared a first look and private vows, and honestly… it was one of those moments where you quietly step back and you can't believe that you get to be a part of such a sweet and intimate moment. They were both so emotional, reading words they had clearly poured their hearts into. We all just stood there smiling behind our cameras.
Portraits with them were such a blast. They were so much fun to work with, moving, dancing, spinning, laughing, fully leaning into the moment and trusting the process. Kaitlyn wore a beautiful veil that was perfect for both photo and video, giving us so many creative ways to play without it ever feeling forced.
Their bridal party matched that same energy, easygoing, supportive, down for anything, and genuinely fun to be around.
A Ceremony Full of Love & Remembrance
One of the most special parts of the day was that Kaitlyn's brother officiated their ceremony. There's something incredibly powerful about being married by someone who truly knows you, and that was felt in every word he spoke.
There were also deeply emotional moments woven in. Kaitlyn recently lost her grandpa, and he was honored in such a meaningful way with a reserved seat and a photo attached to her bouquet. One of the most touching moments we captured was Kaitlyn's grandma holding that photo of her late husband.
The Reception & A Surprise No One Saw Coming
The reception space was stunning. Tables were styled with small disco balls, eucalyptus, baby's breath, and candles, creating a look that felt elegant but still playful and true to them. Their color palette of sage green and navy blue paired beautifully with the warm browns and natural textures of the venue.
And then came the moment no one expected. As everyone sat down for dinner, Kaitlyn and Alex stood up to thank their guests. They thanked everyone for coming, acknowledged loved ones who couldn't be there, and then shared that there was a very special someone who couldn't be with them that night, but would be arriving in May of 2026!
The room absolutely erupted. Cheers, gasps, tears, people jumping out of their seats. Their pregnancy announcement took the night to another level.
Dancing, Donuts & The Best Kind of Night
The rest of the night unfolded exactly how you'd hope, nonstop dancing, a packed photo booth, a donut wall, and a dance floor that stayed full. People were laughing, celebrating, and soaking up every moment together.
Kaitlyn and Alex, we adore you both. Your wedding was such a reflection of who you are: creative, emotional, joyful, intentional, and full of love. We're already counting down to May 2026 with you. Here's to music, marriage, and the most exciting next chapter.
With love,
